Dr. Alannah Brett

Leader – Earth Scientist – Mother

“I love being a scientist and a mum, because I get to nurture nature — my children’s, and the earth’s geo-resources.” – Alannah Brett

Welcome, thanks for visiting!

I’m a geoscience researcher at the University of Lausanne, and a mum of two. I’m currently returning to research after mat leave, alongside lots of family change, on my own terms. Right now that means a gradual return, home office, some teaching, and deep work protected for papers and grants to investigate pathways in lithium deposits, geothermal systems and their impacts on society. It also means growing this space to connect with geoscientists and working parents!

Georesources Projects

Mapping the hidden plumbing of the Earth’s crustal resources to unlock sustainable solutions from geothermal to CO2 sequestration, lithium brines, and management of subsurface risks. I’m a geologist who also leads interdisciplinary projects.

Connected Communities

I’m grateful and proud to have built and worked with incredible people, and societies over the last 10 years to organise workshops, teach courses and lead events. See the initiatives and organisations passionate to improve geo-resources and diversity in science, as well as the way I approach teaching.

Ground Truth

A blog that calls geoscientists to society and society to the geoscientists: A place to share research insights and discuss their wider impact with a global community.

Nature, Nurtured

On matrescence and finding wholeness in working-parenthood in science. How do we thrive as working parents? Joy, balance and enrichment in this enriching role. Building a community of working parents — especially working mums in science — to discuss the strategies we use to be connected and present in every part of life, while driving scientific excellence and systemic change.
